Traveller Arrested Trying to Smuggle $2M Worth of Cocaine Inside Cans of Cheese

Written by Primenewsplus

Canadian border officers have made a shocking bust: a traveller arriving from Jamaica was arrested after attempting to smuggle more than $2 million worth of cocaine — hidden inside cans of cheese.

 The Seizure

According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA):

  • The traveller was stopped in the Greater Toronto Area.

  • Officers uncovered 18 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside cans of cheese.

  • The drugs and the traveller have since been transferred to the RCMP for further investigation.

The CBSA announced the seizure in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

Officials did not specify when the arrest took place or confirm whether charges have yet been laid. However, drug seizures of this size typically carry serious trafficking-related charges under Canadian law.

 Cocaine in Cheese?

Smugglers have long attempted to disguise narcotics inside everyday goods — from suitcases and food packages to car parts. But concealing 18 kilos of cocaine inside cheese cans is one of the more unusual methods seized at a Canadian port of entry in recent years.

This latest bust highlights the CBSA’s ongoing vigilance at Canadian borders. While the accused traveller awaits possible charges, officials say the discovery is yet another reminder of how creative — and desperate — smugglers can get.
