Global Sports Family Stands With Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica — In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa’s devastating impact across Jamaica — particularly in St. Elizabeth, St. James, St. Ann, Clarendon, Westmoreland, and Hanover — the global sports community is coming together in an extraordinary show of support.
🏅 Jamaican Legends Lead the Charge
Track and field icons Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Chris Gayle are using their global platforms to rally donations and raise awareness for relief efforts, urging fans and sponsors worldwide to help rebuild their homeland.
“Jamaica gave us everything — now it’s our turn to give back,” one post read on social media, as the athletes mobilized support across continents.
⚽️ Football Community Gives Back
Andre Blake and the Philadelphia Union are sending food, medicine, and essential supplies to affected areas.

Amari’i Bell and Charlton Athletic, along with other UK-based Jamaican players, have pledged cash and material aid.

Leon Bailey and his club AS Roma have also expressed solidarity with Jamaica, pledging to support rebuilding initiatives.

🏀 Basketball Stars Step Up
NBA champion Norman Powell has donated US$100,000 through his foundation, while his team — the Miami Heat, the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, and Carnival Corporation — have collectively contributed US$1 million to Direct Relief.
Deandre Ayton, whose mother is Jamaican, also pledged US$100,000, just months after opening a community center in St. Elizabeth.

“Seeing those same communities now impacted breaks my heart,” Ayton said. “I’m pledging $100K to support both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding.”
Canadian-Jamaican star Jamal Murray has also committed to contributing, continuing his long-standing support for Jamaica.

🏀 NBA and NBPA Issue Joint Statement
“The NBA and NBPA family is heartbroken over the devastation in Jamaica, and we are joining together to support immediate and long-term relief,” the organizations said in a joint statement.
🏈 NFL Joins the Effort
Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons, has pledged US$2.5 million to support relief and recovery efforts in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
