Jamaicans Among Criminal Illegal Immigrants Arrested by ICE as US Cracks Down
Jamaicans among criminal illegal immigrants arrested by ICE are now at the center of a sweeping US enforcement push that officials say is focused on removing the most dangerous offenders from American communities.
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, recent arrests targeted individuals with serious criminal convictions, including sexual assault of a child, murder, aggravated assault, human trafficking, and firearms offenses. Officials described those detained as the worst of the worst.
The development has sparked intense discussion across the Caribbean diaspora, especially as Jamaican nationals were named among those taken into custody.
ICE Says This Operation Targets the Most Dangerous Criminals
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are prioritizing individuals who pose the greatest threat to public safety. She stated that pedophiles, violent offenders, and human traffickers are being removed from American neighborhoods.
Among the Jamaicans identified were Duane Alando Spence, convicted of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in Miami, and Marvin McGregor, convicted of third degree murder, illegal firearms possession, and reckless endangerment in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
McLaughlin emphasized that these arrests are not random but based on criminal records and court convictions inside the United States.
Caribbean Nationals Named in the ICE Arrests
Jamaicans among criminal illegal immigrants arrested by ICE were not the only Caribbean nationals detained in the latest enforcement sweep.
Officials also confirmed arrests of:
• A Barbadian national convicted of assault in Brooklyn, New York
• Dominican Republic nationals convicted of sexual conduct against a child, attempted murder, and illegal weapons possession in New York and New Jersey
• Cuban nationals convicted of aggravated assault in Florida and armed robbery in Orlando
DHS officials say the common thread in these cases is serious violent crime, not immigration status alone.
