Tragic: Trelawny Farmer Dies After Choking During Bun Eating Contest in Manchester

A fun afternoon on Main Street turned into a heartbreaking tragedy on Saturday when a Trelawny farmer lost his life during a bun eating contest in Christiana, Manchester.

Police have confirmed the death of Kerron Powell, 37, a resident of Litchfield district in Trelawny, after he choked during the contest and was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

What Happened

Around midday on Saturday, Powell was one of three participants in the bun eating contest on Main Street in Christiana when he suddenly began choking and vomiting. Emergency responders rushed him to the nearest hospital, but tragically, doctors were unable to save him.

Police have classified the incident as death by misadventure, and it is suspected that Powell died from asphyxiation as a result of the contest.

It is understood that Powell lived with an intellectual disability at the time of the incident.
