KINGSTON, Jamaica — Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has confirmed that the use of all toll roads across Jamaica remains free of cost in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday afternoon, Minister Vaz said he was made aware of reports that unscrupulous individuals were attempting to collect money at toll booths despite the government’s directive.
“The use of all toll roads remains free of cost to the public. I have instructed the police to investigate any person found charging or attempting to charge,” Vaz stated.
The toll roads were opened free to the public ahead of the storm, which made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday as a Category 5 hurricane, causing widespread damage and disruption across the island.
Minister Vaz reiterated that no toll fees are to be collected until further notice, emphasizing that the priority remains ensuring safe travel and public access during the ongoing recovery period.
