Buju Banton Takes Legal Action Against Wayne Wonder and Wife Over Alleged Defamatory Remarks

Written by Primenewsplus

International reggae superstar Buju Banton is not taking any chances — and he wants an apology, fast.

Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, has given fellow entertainer Wayne Wonder and his wife until Wednesday to retract alleged defamatory remarks posted on Wayne Wonder’s social media page and issue a full public apology — or face serious legal consequences.

How It All Started

The dispute between the two reggae icons reportedly erupted over songwriting credit for the legendary hit single “Murderer” — a song that holds significant cultural weight in Jamaican music history.

The conflict went public when Jacqueline Charles, wife of Von Wayne Charles (Wayne Wonder), was heard in an audio recording posted on her husband’s social media page making a series of damaging claims against Banton. The post was later picked up and reshared by a local entertainment website, causing the story to spread rapidly across digital platforms.

Legal Notice Served

The couple was formally served last Friday and given five days to respond.

Banton’s legal and management teams have since released a strong statement, categorically rejecting and denouncing the remarks as completely false and defamatory.

“The statements in question falsely allege the commission of serious criminal acts. These allegations are entirely untrue, without factual basis, and have caused significant reputational harm to our client both in Jamaica and internationally.”

The statement made clear that a formal legal notice has been issued demanding the immediate removal of all defamatory content, along with a full and unequivocal retraction and public apology.

Buju’s Team is Watching

Banton’s team is leaving nothing to chance. According to the statement, the continued spread of these false claims across multiple digital platforms is being actively monitored.

The statement also issued a firm warning to anyone involved in sharing the content.

“Our client reserves all rights and will pursue all available legal remedies against any individual or entity involved in the publication or further dissemination of these defamatory claims.”

A Legacy That Will Be Protected

Banton’s team made it clear that this matter will be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

“Buju Banton has built a global reputation over decades through his music, cultural impact, and advocacy. These false allegations stand in stark contrast to that legacy and will be addressed with the required gravity.”

Attorney Rita Allen-Brown is representing Myrie in the matter.
