AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — Reggae singer Jah Cure will serve more time behind bars after the Amsterdam Court of Appeal increased his prison sentence to eight years and four months for the stabbing of a concert promoter in 2021.
The decision was handed down by the Supreme Court of the Netherlands on October 30, according to a representative from the Netherlands Prosecution Service.
Jah Cure, whose real name is Siccature Alcock, was initially sentenced to six years in prison in March 2022 for attempted manslaughter. He had been acquitted of the more serious charge of attempted murder, but prosecutors appealed that ruling.
The appeal court reviewed new evidence, including voice messages Jah Cure allegedly sent to a friend before the incident, in which he reportedly said he intended to meet the victim — Dutch concert promoter Nicardo “Papa” Blake — and that he had taken a knife with him.
Prosecutors argued that the messages showed premeditation, leading the court to lengthen the singer’s sentence.
The stabbing occurred in October 2021 in Dam Square, Amsterdam, following a business dispute over payment for a performance. Blake survived the attack after being stabbed in the abdomen.
Jah Cure has remained in pre-trial detention in Amsterdam since his arrest and will continue serving his sentence in the Netherlands.
