GRAND BLANC, Mich. — A mass shooting and fire at a church in Grand Blanc Township left the community reeling Sunday, with at least one person killed, nine wounded, and several congregants feared trapped.
What Happened
Officials say a 40-year-old man drove a vehicle into the entrance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then began shooting into the crowd. After firing shots, he allegedly set portions of the church on fire.
Responding law enforcement engaged and killed the suspect on the scene. Authorities confirmed there is no continuing threat to the public. Firefighters battled flames for hours, and smoke billowed across the area. Officials warned more victims may remain inside the charred portions of the building.
