Over $170 Million Raised for Jamaica’s Hurricane Relief Through Government Website

Written by Primenewsplus

KINGSTON, Jamaica — More than J$170 million has been raised through the Government’s official hurricane relief website, supportjamaica.gov.jm, to aid recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement during Monday’s Sitting of the House of Representatives (Nov. 4), describing the donations as a powerful show of unity and national resilience.

Funds Go Directly to ODPEM

All contributions made through the portal go directly to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) — the Government’s lead agency responsible for coordinating disaster response and recovery.

The funds will be used to rebuild homes, support shelters, and restore essential services in communities hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa’s devastating winds and floods.

A Call to Keep the Momentum Going

Prime Minister Holness expressed gratitude to donors both locally and across the Jamaican diaspora, urging continued participation as the country enters the next phase of rebuilding.

“We have seen an inspiring outpouring of support from Jamaicans at home and abroad. Every contribution, no matter how small, is making a difference,” the Prime Minister said.

The Government launched supportjamaica.gov.jm shortly after Hurricane Melissa struck the island, providing a secure and transparent platform for individuals and organizations to contribute to the national recovery effort.

With over J$170 million already secured, the initiative stands as a testament to the strength, generosity, and unity of the Jamaican people — proving once again that when disaster strikes, Jamaica rises.
