It started as a shocking clip on social media — a man swinging a machete in broad daylight. But now, the story has taken an even darker turn.
The Viral Video That Sparked Outrage
On September 14, a confrontation in Freeman’s Hall, Albert Town, spiraled into violence. The victim, a woman who reportedly went to retrieve a car key, was met with rage. Cleon Buckle, a 42-year-old taxi operator, allegedly struck her with a machete during the argument.
The footage quickly spread across WhatsApp and other platforms, leaving viewers horrified and demanding justice.
Charges and Court Date
Buckle was arrested by Ulster Spring police on September 19 and charged with unlawful wounding. He is expected to appear in Ulster Spring Parish Court on October 6.
For many in the community, the arrest felt like the first step toward accountability in a case that had already played out in the public eye.
A Darker History Emerges
But the machete attack isn’t the only cloud over Buckle’s name. Investigators from the Trelawny Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) confirmed that he is also facing sexual offence charges.
Authorities revealed that an arrest warrant had already been issued against him in connection with the alleged repeated sexual assault of a minor in 2024. Arrangements are now being made for him to be formally charged in that case.
Violence, Virality, and Accountability
The viral spread of the machete video highlights a troubling reality: brutal acts of violence are often witnessed first online, shared by thousands before the courts even take notice. For some, this kind of exposure is the only way cases gain traction. For others, it raises painful questions about how we consume — and sometimes sensationalize — human suffering.
Cleon Buckle’s case is no longer just a headline about a machete attack. It’s a chilling reminder of how one act of violence can open the door to a deeper, more disturbing story. As the courts move forward, the eyes of Trelawny — and now the world — are watching to see if justice will be served.
