Former U.S. President Donald Trump ignited a firestorm this week after claiming he was the target of coordinated sabotage during his appearance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Citing what he called a “triple sabotage,” Trump accused unnamed parties of intentionally disrupting three separate elements of his visit: an escalator malfunction, a teleprompter blackout, and an alleged audio failure.
The Escalator Incident
The drama began when Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the UN via a VIP entrance. As they were ascending an escalator, the machine jolted to a sudden halt. The moment was caught on video and quickly spread online, leading Trump to claim someone had intentionally pressed the emergency stop button.
“It was a setup. No question about it,” Trump said at a press conference shortly afterward. “They didn’t want us to make that entrance. It was disgraceful.”
However, U.N. officials have since stated that the stoppage was caused by a credentialed videographer who accidentally leaned on the emergency button.

Teleprompter Blackout
During his scheduled address to world leaders, Trump’s teleprompter reportedly stopped functioning just minutes into the speech. Trump, visibly frustrated, paused several times and eventually abandoned his prepared remarks.
He later blasted the incident on Truth Social, writing:
“SABOTAGE at the highest level. They took out the teleprompter. Think about it.”
Sources inside the U.S. delegation noted that the teleprompter was operated by White House staff, not UN personnel — a detail that may complicate Trump’s claims of external foul play.
The Muffled Mic Mystery
The final component of what Trump dubbed the “triple sabotage” was a reported malfunction of the venue’s audio system. Multiple attendees claimed they could not hear the former president clearly, and Trump alleged his microphone had been tampered with to mute his message.
“They were trying to silence me,” he said. “First the escalator, then the speech, then the audio. This was coordinated.”
UN officials say the venue’s interpretation equipment may have contributed to some confusion, but no systemic sabotage was detected.

Calls for Investigation
Trump has since called on the Secret Service and FBI to investigate all three incidents. He also demanded that UN surveillance footage be preserved and made public. “Someone will go to jail for this,” he told reporters. “You don’t try to humiliate the president of the United States — especially not this one.”
The Secret Service has yet to comment publicly on the matter, but sources say they are reviewing security footage as a precaution.
Online Reaction
The internet exploded with memes, hot takes, and debates. Supporters rallied behind Trump’s claims of a conspiracy, while critics dismissed the events as coincidental — or even comical. Hashtags like #EscalatorGate, #TrumpSabotage, and #TripleFail began trending shortly after the press conference.
Political analysts remain divided on the implications of Trump’s accusations. Some see it as yet another example of him playing the victim to galvanize his base, while others argue that legitimate security and operational concerns should not be dismissed outright.
Regardless of the outcome, Trump’s fiery allegations have once again placed him — and the UN — at the center of global controversy.
