Family Says MRI Technician Invited Man Into Scan Room With Heavy Chain Before Fatal Accident

A routine hospital visit turned into an unimaginable tragedy for the family of 61-year-old Keith McAllister, who died after being pulled into an active MRI machine while wearing a weight-training chain.

 What Happened?

On July 16, 2025, Keith McAllister accompanied his wife to Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, Long Island. After her knee scan, she says a technician invited Keith into the MRI suite to help her up.

The problem? Keith was reportedly wearing a 20-pound metal chain around his neck.

According to his family, the technician never warned him to remove the chain before entering. Moments later, the powerful magnetic field of the MRI machine pulled Keith toward it violently—pinning him to the machine for nearly an hour.

“He Was Trapped—We Couldn’t Get Him Out”

His wife, Adrienne Jones-McAllister, and daughter, Samantha Bodden, said the technician and Adrienne tried desperately to free him, but were unsuccessful until emergency services arrived.

Keith reportedly suffered multiple heart attacks after being detached from the machine. He died the following day, July 17, 2025.

 Family Disputes Initial Claims

Initial reports suggested Keith should not have been inside the MRI room. But his family firmly maintains that he was invited in by staff and never warned about the risk of wearing metal inside the room.

They are now calling for accountability and a full investigation into what they believe was a preventable medical error.

Investigation Underway

Nassau County police have launched an investigation. The county medical examiner’s office is also working to determine the official cause of death.

Meanwhile, the story has sparked a broader conversation about MRI safety protocols, particularly around family members and visitors entering active scan areas.

 A Community Rallies

To help cover funeral costs, the family started a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised thousands in donations from friends, community members, and concerned strangers.

 Why This Matters

MRI machines operate with magnetic forces stronger than 1,000 times the pull of Earth’s gravity. Strict metal-free protocols are standard, yet this incident reveals how quickly things can go wrong when procedures are not followed.

 In Memory of Keith McAllister

Keith McAllister was more than a victim of a freak accident. He was a father, a husband, and a beloved community member whose life was taken far too soon.

His family hopes his story serves as a wake-up call for better training, stronger safeguards, and a renewed commitment to patient—and visitor—safety in all medical environments.
