A Jamaican man who says he was falsely arrested is suing the State after claiming he contracted a sexually transmitted infection following a brutal assault inside a police lockup.
According to the lawsuit, John Brown* was taken into custody, placed in a cell, and ordered by officers to remove his clothes. He was then attacked by two fellow detainees who were deliberately placed in his cell by police — an assault that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
The incident allegedly took place in 2014, and Brown is now seeking damages from the State, arguing that officers not only failed to protect him but played a direct role in creating the conditions that led to the attack.
