Councillor Intercepts Man With Missing Child in Clarendon

Written by Primenewsplus

A High Alert issued Tuesday afternoon for six-year-old Anka Glasgow of Inglewood Drive, Victoria Avenue, Clarendon, was stood down hours later after the child was found in the company of an adult male unknown to her. The quick recovery followed a parish-wide police search and strong public support.

According to the May Pen Police, Anka was last seen around 2:30 p.m. at her school wearing a blue uniform, white tie, and brown shoes. When efforts to locate her failed, investigators activated a missing alert and appealed to residents for help in tracing the child’s movements.

In a late-evening update, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) confirmed that Anka had been located unharmed on Glenmuir Road, close to the intersection with Bustamante Highway. An adult male found with her was immediately detained.

Head of the Clarendon Police Division, Senior Superintendent Shane McCalla, said the girl appeared physically well but was taken to a medical facility for a precautionary assessment.

A now-viral photograph shows Councillor Scean Barnswell of the Hayes Division intercepting the man before handing him over to law enforcement. Police are currently working to confirm the man’s identity and determine whether he may be mentally unwell.

Detectives say investigations are ongoing and the man is expected to be brought before the courts as soon as charges are formalised.
