Ghana has reaffirmed its support for Jamaica’s campaign for reparations, strengthening the growing partnership between Africa and the Caribbean in the fight for historical justice.
Speaking during the launch of Ghana’s Emancipation Day 2026 activities, Charles Kwakye Buabeng, Central Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, said Ghana remains committed to advancing reparations for the transatlantic slave trade and colonialism.
He said the country continues to work with African nations, Caribbean states and the global African diaspora to push for justice, restoration and recognition of the lasting effects of slavery.
Jamaica has played a leading role in the regional reparations movement through the CARICOM Reparations Commission. The commission continues to press former colonial powers to address the legacy of slavery and colonialism.

Ghana’s renewed support adds momentum to those efforts. It also highlights the shared commitment between African and Caribbean nations to seek reparatory justice through international cooperation.
Leaders from both regions have called for measures such as formal apologies, compensation and the return of cultural artefacts taken during the colonial era. They believe these steps are important in addressing historical injustices and promoting healing.
The latest show of solidarity underscores the strong ties between Ghana and Jamaica. It also reinforces their shared goal of pursuing justice for the descendants of enslaved Africans while building a stronger future through partnership and unity.
