A St Andrew man who attempted to conceal an illegal firearm and ammunition in the ceiling of his Red Hills home has been sentenced to life in prison.

Iyan Guzmore, of Cedar Valley in Red Hills, received his sentence on Friday, February 13, in the Gun Court for unauthorized possession of ammunition. He must serve 15 years before becoming eligible for parole.

According to police reports, Guzmore was arrested and charged in 2023 following an operation conducted by a St Andrew North police team in the Cyprus Hall area of Red Hills on November 14. During the search of his premises, officers discovered a .38 revolver and two .38 cartridges hidden in the ceiling.

Guzmore was charged with multiple breaches of the Firearms Act. The sentences reflect the serious nature of illegal firearm possession under Jamaica’s gun laws and the authorities’ commitment to tackling gun-related crime.
