KINGSTON, Jamaica — Grammy-winning dancehall superstar Sean Paul is stepping up in a big way to help his fellow Jamaicans rebuild after Hurricane Melissa.

In an emotional post on Instagram, the 52-year-old artist announced that he will match up to $50,000 in donations to support families whose lives were devastated by the storm.

“Right now, my island of Jamaica is going through a really tough time,” he wrote. “Hurricane Melissa has caused serious damage, and many of our brothers and sisters are struggling — families displaced, homes destroyed, and communities in need of help.”

Partnering for Relief

Through the Sean Paul Foundation, the “Temperature” hitmaker has partnered with Food For The Poor Jamaica to bring direct assistance to those most affected.

“Every donation counts, no matter how small,” Sean Paul said. “Together, we can make a big difference.”

The artist added that his foundation will match every dollar raised, doubling the total impact of contributions up to $50,000.

Melissa’s Impact

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28 as a Category 5 storm, with winds reaching 185 mph. The storm left catastrophic damage across several parishes and displaced thousands before moving on to eastern Cuba the following day.

At least seven people were reported dead in the Caribbean prior to the storm’s landfall in Jamaica.

Sean Paul’s effort adds to a growing wave of relief initiatives as local and international organizations mobilize to provide aid to affected communities.
