Dancehall entertainer Elephant Man could face legal action following a widely circulated incident involving videographer Dario Shields at Dream Weekend’s YUSH event.
Shields has accused the artiste of publicly humiliating him and damaging his professional camera equipment during the event on Saturday.
According to a letter sent by the law firm Knight, Junor & Samuels on Shields’ behalf, Dream Entertainment Limited had contracted the videographer to provide services at the event.
Video footage shared across social media appears to show Elephant Man dragging Shields while repeatedly ordering him to move. The entertainer can also be heard using expletives and suggesting that the videographer could not afford to take legal action against him.
Shields’ attorneys allege that the incident occurred in front of thousands of patrons and entertainment industry professionals. They claim their client was subjected to degrading remarks and experienced significant embarrassment and emotional distress.
The legal team also says Shields’ camera equipment was damaged during the encounter. The full cost of the alleged damage is still being assessed.
Elephant Man later posted a video indicating that he had apologized for what occurred. However, Shields’ attorneys maintain that their client has not received a formal apology.
They are requesting a full, clear and public apology from the dancehall artiste. The attorneys also confirmed that Shields has instructed them to explore all legal options available to him.
The incident has triggered widespread discussion online about how photographers and videographers should be treated while carrying out their professional duties at major entertainment events.
