Florida High School Basketball Coach Arrested on Sex-Related Charges Involving a Minor
A Nova High School basketball coach has been arrested on sex-related charges involving a minor, according to authorities in Broward County, Florida.
Dequan Andre Sierra, 29, was taken into custody on Friday by Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies from the Weston district. He appeared in Broward bond court on Saturday, where a judge found probable cause and set his bond at $50,000, which he has since posted.
Charges Against Dequan Andre Sierra:
- One count of solicitation of a minor by an authoritative figure
- One count of unlawful sexual activity with a person aged 16 or 17
Sierra was employed at Nova High School as a school monitor and boys’ basketball coach, as listed on the school’s website.
In response to the allegations, Broward County Public Schools issued a statement confirming that Sierra has been reassigned away from students pending the outcome of the investigation. If the allegations are substantiated, he will face termination.
