Breaking Barriers: Jada Wright’s Historic Enrollment at UTech Jamaica
In January 2024, Jada Wright became the youngest student ever admitted to the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech), at the age of 14. Embarking on a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, she joined the School of Computing and Information Technology within the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.
Academic Excellence: Achieving All A’s in First Year
Now 15, Jada has completed her first year at UTech with outstanding success, securing straight A’s across all her courses. Her dedication and passion for technology have set her apart as a remarkable student.
Early Achievements: A Foundation of Success
Before her university journey, Jada demonstrated exceptional academic prowess. She earned nine grade ones in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations. Additionally, she initiated and managed the Caribbean Online Academy, a virtual school aimed at providing accessible education to Caribbean students.

Despite being the youngest in her cohort, Jada has seamlessly integrated into university life. She expressed appreciation for the inclusive environment at UTech, stating, “No one treats me like I’m a younger kid… I feel just like a regular college student.”

Jada’s enthusiasm for technology extends beyond her studies. She has been invited to speak at various events, including the Cari-code Conference, where she will discuss the future of artificial intelligence (AI) from her generation’s perspective. She emphasizes the responsible use of AI as a tool to support learning.
